قال الصّادق عليه السّلام: الخشية ميراث العلم، و العلم شعاع المعرفة و قلب الايمان، و من حرم الخشية لا يكون عالما و ان شقّ الشّعر بمتشابهات العلم.
و آفة العلماء عشرة أشياء، الطّمع، و البخل، و الرّياء، و العصبيّة، و حبّ المدح، و الخوض فيما لم يصلوا إلى حقيقته، و التّكلّف في تزيين الكلام بزوائد الالفاظ، و قلّة الحياء من الله عزّ و جلّ، و الافتخار، و ترك العمل بما علموا
قال عيسي ابن مريم عليه السّلام ٔاشق الناس من هو معروف بعلمه مجهول بعمله

imām al-ṣādiq – upon him peace - said: the legacy of knowledge is awe, and knowledge is the ray of gnosis and the heart of faith, and whoever is devoid of awe is not knowledgeable, even if he splits hairs with the subtleties of knowledge.
and the blight of the scholars are ten things: avarice, and miserliness, and posing, and prejudice, and love of praise, and swimming deep where truth would not be reached, and extravagance in over-adorning speech with words, and having little shame from God – mighty and tremendous – and pride, and abandoning acting upon what they know.
Jesus son of Mary – upon him peace – said: the worst of people is the one who is well-known for his knowledge and unknown for his deeds.
أبوعبدالله الاشعري، عن بعض أصحابنا، رفعه عن هشام بن الحكم قال:
قال لي أبوالحسن موسى بن جعفر (عليهما السلام): … يا بنّى إنّ الدنيا بحر عميق قد غرق فيها عالَم كثير فلتكن سفينتك فيها تقوى الله و حشوها الإيمان و شراعها التوكل و قيّمها العقل و دليلها العلم و سكّانها الصبر
